When a manufacturer warrants a product for 30 years, homeowners/consumers expect the product to last for 30 years and not begin failing after only a few years. And manufacturers should do the right thing if their products start failing well before the warranty expires.

Nationwide litigation is in progress involving Atlas Chalet and Stratford shingles. Plaintiffs claim that the Atlas Roofing Corporation put a flawed product on the market, alleging that the Chalet and Stratford shingles crack and blister prematurely as well as lose all of their granules. Some of the class action complaints allege that when homeowners raised complaints, Atlas Roofing Corporation denied responsibility by blaming the weather or the shingle installers. Plaintiffs also allege that, in 2010, due to the defects in their Chalet line of shingles, Atlas stopped manufacturing those shingles.

Nationwide Lawsuits Against Atlas Roofing

On December 19, 2013, after several lawsuits were filed against Atlas around the country, the Judicial Panel on Multi-district Litigation (JPML) ordered that all lawsuits against Atlas involving Atlas Chalet shingles be consolidated in federal court in Atlanta, GA before the Honorable Thomas W. Thrash, Jr. (Judge Thrash). Subsequently, the JPML has transferred a case filed in Florida regarding Atlas Stratford shingles to Judge Thrash as well. In other words, no matter what state you live in, any lawsuit filed against Atlas in federal court involving Atlas Chalet and Stratford shingles will likely be handled in Atlanta, Georgia.

Judge Thrash appointed a group of experienced and highly-regarded attorneys experienced in defective construction product litigation from around the country to represent homeowners with defective Atlas Chalet shingles. Our group of attorneys is called the “Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee” or “PSC”. Our attorneys would be happy to answer any questions you may have and help you with your shingle defect claim.
